COLLINS KW-1 REGISTRY - updated 6/18/2013
The
KW-1 is one of the rarest (and most desired) pieces of Collins equipment!
Here is a listing
of the current owners of the KW-1. It is as accurate as I can make it based
on information
at my disposal. The original basis for the listing is data collected for over
a decade by
Butch, KØBS. If you own a KW-1 and can provide any additional info
or corrections please
contact me via e-mail. I would be
grateful for any information received. I would also like to
encourage any current owners to provide additional details on your KW-1 -

It's
amazing how many of these survive today and are on the air! I now only need
info for
17 of the 150 originally manufactured. Here's Proof
that at least one KW-1 made it to Germany!
At least it was there in 1955 (Thanks to Dave, N4XO for this info)

| S/N 50: While at Columbia Univ this KW-1 was used as an exciter for a high power plasma generator. |
| S/N 115: Purchased new by W9EWC from Harris radio, Fond Du Lac, WI, on 8/23/53 |
| S/N 133: Purchased directly from Art Collins by Faust Gonset (Gonset Radio) |
| S/N 139: Originally used by Oahu, HI, Civil Defense. Stored for years, new, in an ammo bunker inside Diamond Head Crater. Used as a prop in the Hawaii Five-O television series. Restored by present owner. |
| S/N 150: An advertisement in Dec, 1962 CQ Magazine noted this unit was factory converted for SSB and FSK RTTY. It was for sale at $1995. |
